In
recent years we have expanded are Partridge flock in order that we can be more
self-sufficient. Our laying flock now comprises 11520 pairs that our housed in
enriched raised laying units protecting them from many of diseases and problems
associated with birds kept on the ground.
Our
birds are kept in a 3 year cycle, with the oldest birds being sold as ex-layers
immediately after their third laying season.
The
birds are routinely treated to protect against parasites and are also
vaccinated against infectious bronchitis, mycoplasma, TRT,
The
raised units are equipped with an automated feed system supplied by Collinsons.
This system allows each row to be fed independently by auger from a bulk
storage hopper. Nipple lines are also fitted, fed by mains regulated water
through a medicater.
We
intend to enclose the laying units with a perimeter fence and cover with a bird
proof net in the near future which will further protect the birds from the
elements and also to prevent wild animals and birds from entering the field.
The first stage of this project “the perimeter fence” will be completed before
the summer of 2008
PARTRIDGES EGG PRODUCTION
Our partridge laying
flock is concentrated on one field only a short distance from the hatchery. The
eggs are collected daily and brought straight to the hatchery where they are
sanitized and disinfected before being graded. Unsuitable eggs are removed
before the eggs are put into our environmentally controlled store.
We have the capacity
to set 87000 partridge eggs per week depending on demand. We go into full
production on peak weeks however when demand overtakes our production we will
source eggs from
