The poults are taken from the indoor unit around 24 days of age
and placed in traditional huts and runs.
They have access to brooders on cold days and during darkness for a
further 10 – 12 days. They are weaned of
crumbs on to Masseys Growers Pellets between day 24 – 35 by having access to both. We use the home-made barrel type as
shown. For water they have a bell
drinker and a home made nipple drinker system as shown which is moved daily and
set at the correct height by the distance it is inserted into the ground.

ADVICE FOR
RECEIVING POULTS
Make sure the
pen has been prepared, the equipment cleaned and disinfected to ensure the good
health of the poults, which will be delivered to you
during this season. We are advising you
of the following:
The birds
are currently being fed on Massey’s Grower Pellet and the anti-coccidiostat is Avatec. For further information contact Massey’s
direct on 01477 533312. We strongly
advise that anyone taking our poults uses Massey’s
feed for the first week.
Wherever
possible, we catch in the evening and deliver the poults
early next morning. We find moving them
through the night (long haul) is less stressful for them. We also include 1% extra with all orders to
cover any losses in transit. They must
be released as soon as possible after our driver’s arrival on site.
It is
advisable and important to build a small, covered pen around or near your
release pen entry gate into which you should put your poults
for the first few hours. It should
contain plenty of watering and feed points to ensure the poults
feed and drink before wandering off to explore their new surroundings. It also prevents free winged poults from flying straight out and gives the Keeper a
better opportunity to examine/view them.
Please
ensure that you have an appropriate number of assistants and suitable vehicles
to transport the crates from the wagon to release pen. Our driver will help to unload the
vehicle. As a courtesy to him and other
customers, please try not to cause him any unnecessary delay.
As part of
our rearing programme the birds are treated with a Soluble pro-biotic in the
water supply before being moved and we recommend you continue to use it for at
least the first 3 days after delivery.
This is called ‘Stockmans Choice Probiotic Water Lin’ and is available from the ‘Profitable
Farming Company Ltd’ Tel: 01805 603363 or Fax: 01805 603335. We have not administered anti-biotics to any of our birds so far this year. Anyone who wishes to see their birds before
delivery, please call the office and make arrangements.
Please
ensure there are plenty of feeding and watering points (running water eg. A stream is not suitable) around the inside perimeter
of your release pens, BEFORE our driver arrives. All the poults are
used to nipple drinkers and hanging drinkers.
IF YOU FEEL
THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE BIRD AFTER DELIVERY, WE MUST BE NOTIFIED
WITHIN 48 HOURS. PLEASE DO NOT HESITATE
TO CONTACT US FOR ADVICE IF YOU ARE WORRIED OR UNSURE ABOUT THE BIRDS.
